Fran’s Story:

From the first time Fran Lamothe walked into a darkroom at the age of 12 she found her niche, the beginning of a lifetime passion creating innovative art. When a friend took her as a teenager to the International Centre of Photography to see an exhibit of Diane Arbus and Irving Penn, she was captivated and could clearly see her path. The world was excited about artists Robert Rauschenberg, Andy Warhol and Gerhard Richter, who inspired Fran with their ground-breaking works that were changing the boundaries of art. Since then, Fran has challenged her own boundaries, documenting urban life in New York and nature in California; the beauty of the Joshua Tree desert as well as botanical and seascape images. Her series of renowned flying ring acrobats on the beach of Santa Monica, cemented her work as a visual artist. A love of music and architecture added to Fran’s evolution into Mixed Media, layering painting with photography and collage, creating modern art with a distinctive twist.

About Fran:

After graduating from the New York School of Visual Arts (SVA) in the class that included artist Keith Haring, Fran worked with top directors in advertising as Associate Producer on television commercials, including Heineken, M&M’s and Pepsi.  She opened Montreal’s first digital imaging studio and had her work shown in gallery exhibitions in Canada and the U.S.A.

A move to LA. to study at the American Film Institute in new media led to the next phase of Fran’s career; interactive DVD design for clients Warner Bros. and Sony Pictures for films like Austin Powers, James Bond and Blade Runner. Her extensive career in film production and digital media added a special dimension to her work behind the camera. More than 5,000 photographs later, Fran Lamothe continues to evolve as an artist and photographer, injecting an emotional quality into each work. Today Fran is finding a unique way to layer her photography with colorful stripes and textures to create a new style. This is Fran’s signature; bold original paintings and limited edition prints that fuse the real and the abstract into tangible, one-of-a-kind artworks and photographs.
